Green Star School Project

Papamoa College is a new Greenstar school, designed to deliver the New Zealand curriculum using inquiry based learning instead of traditional subject-based teaching.

In place of classrooms, students are taught in learning commons – large, open-plan areas served by tutorial and seminar rooms.

For designers ASC Architects, creating a visually interesting open-plan teaching space required enhancing the appearance of ceiling and floor.

Working with Shaw Contract Group's New Zealand distributor Jacobsen, ASC specified Shaw carpets’ Disperse range of ECNZ certified carpet tiles, utilising the variety of colours and linear design to accentuate open areas.

Scattered between Disperse tiles are selected accent colour tiles from the Gradient Range, providing a “freckle” effect.

The density of the freckles change throughout the space, differentiating teaching areas from relaxing areas.
